In 2007, the Sydney Dance Company was in crisis. After 30 years of the Graeme Murphy as it’s Artistic Director, Tanja Liedtke had been set to take the helm when a tragic car accident took her life. Filmmakers Tim Slade and Joanna Buggy began shooting this captivating documentary in the aftermath of her tragic death.

In her absence, three internationally renowned guest choreographers were invited to choreograph one work from a blank canvas. One was the Spanish-born Rafael Bonachela, who was later appointed to the sought-after role of Artistic Director.

Blank Canvas goes behind the scenes of the Sydney Dance Company and charts the creation of Bonachela’s first work in this position, the beautiful ‘we unfold’.
