Selling millions of copies worldwide, Philip Pullman's first instalment of His Dark Materials is a phenomenon, gaining comparisons to classics such as The Chronicles of Narnia and Harry Potter series.
This feature-length documentary explores the complex codes of Pullman's ominous and mysterious universe, where human souls take the form of animal daemons and evil masquerades as beauty and piety.
It provides in-depth analyses of the witches, phantoms and armoured bears that traverse the tale. Through interviews with historians, digital sequences and commentary from Pullman himself, the film deciphers the symbolism of the book, revealing Pullman's own distaste for religious and political duplicity.
